green thumb

so we got into the spirit of spring/early summer and decided to try our green thumbs. we bought flowers to plant along with fruits and vegetables. so for family home evening a few weeks ago we put the plants in the ground. and as you can imagine, tyrell had a great time using the rodda tiller. you would not believe how wonderful the soil is here. for the garden we just took the grass off and tilled it up and it was rich dark soil with plenty of worms. we planted begonias, coleus, and a hydrangea in the front, along with the pansies i got from church on mothers day.

the garden has 8 tomato plants, 6 cucumbers (we lost two) 4 lettuce, 4 green bell peppers, 4 yellow bell peppers, 4 red bell peppers, and 4 green chilies. and i am pretty sure that is too many vegetables for a 10'x3' piece of ground. in a smaller spot we have watermelon and strawberries. we also have a raspberry bush that has not yet found a home. carter came out to join us and was an adorable spectator throughout the whole thing. lets just pray that they all survive!

spring

so spring in michigan is beautiful. there were blossoms and tulips everywhere. when i went to az last month it was winter and when we got home, spring had sprung. all the blossoms and tulips are gone now, but there are so many beautiful flowers and every one's yards are full of pansies, iris, lilacs, and begonias. (there are many more types of flowers but those listed have exhausted my floral vocabulary). anyway, it's green and beautiful. it's amazing what rain can do.

a few tid bits

after contemplating a good while on what he should do with this new object...

suddenly it was so clear :)
tyrell got in an accident last night. he was on his way to test for his ASE certifications (mechanic certification), a dog was in the road, the guy in front of him slammed on his brakes, and ty plowed into the back of an old pick up truck. but it turned out pretty well as far as accidents go. no one got hurt, the dog survived :), ty didn't get a ticket, nothing happened to the truck he hit, and turns out the guy in the truck was also on his way to the ASE testing. so he gave ty a ride and ty felt good about the majority of his test. so i guess the poor toyota is the only casualty. my poor little car (Priscilla)!!!! too bad he wasn't in the already dented truck :(

turns out that this month... binkies are out and thumbs are all the rage :)

carter has a little trouble with volume control. he has learned that he can scream and he must love the sound of his new voice, because he lies there and hollers all day.

carter and i got back from our two week visit in AZ last weekend. it was carter's 'coming out' and he was able to meet so many friends and family. it was two weeks full of grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and cousins galore. i was mortified about flying with carter but he did really well. there was just one incident on the flight from detroit to phoenix. from the time we boarded to the time we took off he was screaming bloody murder. and when he gets like that, only sleep will calm his rage. so everyone is trying to board, rolling their eyes as they realize they are near the screaming baby, the flight attendant was trying to walk with him but nothing was helping. so people shuffled seats and a very nice woman named jan volunteered to sit with us and help me. i was very grateful to her and for her moral support (truly an answer to my prayers). we got the middle seat next to us vacant and once the plane tool off, carter fell asleep and was an angel the rest of the way. it worked out well because he was able to clear the area and we got more room and nice neighbors. and on the flight home everyone complimented me on how good my baby was. thank heaven!!! thanks to everyone who traveled and took time out to visit us and to all who fed and transported us!! we really appreciate it. poor tyrell was home alone for two weeks. when we got home he had the house sparkling and flowers waiting. he was really glad to see us and we were glad to see him too. next time we'll bring him along to have some AZ fun!
